Mission and Priority Activities 2010-2013

 

 


MISSION: The mission of the Violence Prevention Coalition is to be a powerful, unified voice and a resource for member organizations who are committed to developing healthy, safe communities, advocating for a prevention-based approach to reducing/eliminating violence, and creating social equity.

PURPOSE: The VPCGLA accomplishes our mission by providing common resources including disseminating research, identifying and promoting emerging/best practices, convening trainings, workshops, and conferences, providing a link between individuals, community organizations and policymakers -- and creating a platform for members to promote comprehensive intervention and prevention approaches on a systemic level to reduce/eliminate violence and its impact on the health and well-being of the communities of Los Angeles.


Priority Activities 2010-2013

Capacity Building Public Education Policy/Advocacy
  • Promotion of Public Health Model (to include development of logic model for member agency assessments)

  • Workshops (responsive to member needs, to include capacity building for policy action, new member orientation)

  • Applied Research (with direct member benefits, to include DV/Gang Violence, Focused/Pilot Scorecard)

  • Case Studies of Member Organization Best Practices and Programs

  • Information About/Process for Soliciting Collaborative Funding

  • Promotion of Public Health Model (to include targeted messages for stakeholders, influential leaders and general public; also as part of an assessment of place-based policies and programs)

  • Applied Research (disseminated within field and the public)

  • Awards Banquet

  • Quarterly Newsletter

  • Development of Key Messages (beginning with Youth Re-entry)

  • Priority Issues: Re-entry, Handgun Violence, Gang Intervention

  • Applied Research (to include policy maker survey)

  • Public Health Model Assessments of Policy/Budgets within Selected Elected Official Districts
